Message from the Principal

Welcome Back

I trust that you all had an amazing holiday. We have been blessed with the most sensational weather yet again. It's been tough for us - as I am sure it's been for the children, replacing the jandals and board shorts with more formal attire.

I want to not only welcome you back to Remuera Primary School, but also thank you for assisting us in making such a successful start to the year. The children are so bright and happy, it's been a joy to start school with such positive attitudes.

The staff has worked hard to create attractive learning environments and have prepared an exciting start to the year for every child. I have no doubt too, that everyone is in for a fantastic year.

As life returns to normal and the routines of school life settle, please remember that we see your child's successful educational journey being enhanced by the maintenance of a positive relationship between home and school. We work hard to keep our community well informed, but there are times when we don't get it quite right. If you find that you are hitting a slight "speed bump" on your child's journey, please come and see us.

Coronavirus Update

We continue to closely monitor conditions relating to the spread of the virus and are in regular contact with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.  While it appears we are still in a holding pattern waiting to see if the situation worsens, we are ever hopeful that life will soon resume to normal for those families who have been impacted by the virus.

Next week we look forward to welcoming those families who have been in isolation for 14 days, as they return to school.  We understand how difficult the isolation has been, and sincerely thank all families for their support in protecting the health of all members of our community.

We will continue to provide you updates, when new information or changes to the current status are made by the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Health.

School Swimming Pool

I am sorry to say that the pool will not be ready for a few more weeks.

We had intended to have the pool ready for use in Week 2, but have unfortunately hit hurdle after hurdle.  While the pool has always had a minor leak, the leak has exacerbated considerably, and we are now losing at least 250mm of water every day.

Apart from the cost of water replenishment, we would physically not be able to put enough chemicals into the water to keep pace with the additional water added due to leakage.

We are now commissioning a test that will identify where the leak is - either in the sub-structure of the pool, or the filter lines.  Once we know where the water is leaking from, we will be able to more accurately determine the best course of action.

In the short term, we have stopped topping up the pool, so you will note the level dropping, and of course the water will discolour.

My apologies for this inconvenience. I am hopeful that we can have this resolved as soon as possible.

Meet the Teacher Morning

Our annual "Meet the Teacher" presentation is scheduled for Friday February 21.

This year, our presentation will again be held in the morning as a way of encouraging more families to attend. We hope that this time slot will provide families - who ordinarily would not be able to attend - an opportunity to come along and hear about the exciting year ahead.

Class presentations will begin at 8:50am in your child's classroom. Your child's Teacher will present a brief 20 minute overview covering items such as: class expectations, curriculum highlights, homework and special events for this year.  We anticipate all presentations being completed by 9:10am.

We would then welcome all families to join us for our School Assembly at 9:15 in the Hall.

Please mark your calendars and we look forward to welcoming you.

PTA 2020

PTA 2020

The PTA has already kicked off the year with a Back to School Uniform Sale as well as stationery box distribution in the first week of school. Check out the school calendar and other newsletter messages for more information on events this term.

The Back to School Uniform Sale raised approximately $2000! This is a fantastic start to our fundraising for the year.

After investing a lot of money into the school outdoor areas last year with the new shade sails, astroturf, basketball hoop, worm bins and part-funding of the year 2/3 play area, this year the PTA will focus on building up the funds again in order to help fund a second astroturf by the senior playground.

So please get behind the PTA events and fundraisers this year so we can hit that target as quickly as possible!

Sausage Sizzle and Mufti Day Tomorrow and Ice Block Friday!

Sausage Sizzle and Mufti Day Tomorrow and Ice Block Friday!

Don't forget to wear your mufti clothes tomorrow! Orders have now closed on Kindo.

This year there is a change to our sausage sizzle offerings - the PTA have made the decision not to sell the icypole ice blocks anymore. Unfortunately they create a lot of non-recyclable waste that ends up in the landfill. As a school we are trying to reduce our waste. So, the PTA will gradually be reviewing our services and making changes where we can.

All students who order "juice" on kindo with their sausage order will now receive the small juice box, just like the year 1 and 2 students.

You can still get an icy cold treat with our Popsicle ice blocks for sale at Break 2 every Friday in Terms 1 and 4. Cash only. Please send $2 along to school with your child if they would like to buy an ice block.
