RPS Giving Tree

Tis the season for sharing.

This year Remuera Primary School is proud to have a Giving Tree.  We will be taking donations for KiwiHarvest.

KiwiHarvest reduces the negative impacts of food waste on our environment by redistributing excess food; helping to create lasting positive social change by nourishing those in need.

Put simply, we collect good food before it goes to waste and get it to those in need.

Dry grocery goods and cans would be best - but also lollies for the kids will make a huge difference around this time of the year!

We will have a Xmas Tree in the foyer for donations from Monday 2nd - Friday 13th December.

Food Dates for Your Diary

Mark the dates in your diaries - last food events for the year:

· Jesters Pie Day - 29th November (Week 7)

· Mufti Day and Sausage Sizzle - 6th December (Week 8)

PTA 2019 Summary

The PTA has had a very successful year this year raising approximately $80,000 with still a couple of ice block Fridays and food events to come.

Thank you to all the wonderful PTA volunteers who give up their time to organise and help out with our events and fundraisers. Without our volunteers we would not be able to run all the food events, the second-hand uniform shop and the amazing school events and fundraisers throughout the year - Family Fun Night, Quiz Night, School Discos, Family Movie Night, Whittakers Chocolate, Greenathon and more!

The PTA have been so pleased to be able to contribute to some really exciting projects around the school this year. The biggest and most exciting being funding the installation of the Tigerturf on the junior courts which looks amazing. On top of this the PTA have invested money into:

· table tennis tables

· new basketball hoop on the senior court

· lunch mats for the Year 0/1 classrooms

· steam room equipment

· sunscreen in the classrooms

· funding the Year 6 Breakfast and Year 0/1 Great Winter Playdate

plus there are still a couple of major PTA-funded projects to come this year - sun shades over the junior playground and table tennis area, and line painting of the senior court, as well as our annual BOT and Development Trust donations.

Thank you to all parents, caregivers and friends and family who have got behind our events and fundraisers this year.

And thank you to the school leadership and teachers for their support.

Watch out for a sneak peek at PTA plans for 2020 in the next newsletter.

School Leavers – notice re Kindo school shop

School Leavers - notice re Kindo school shop
If your family is leaving our school and moving to another school that does not use Kindo for school payments, you need to close your account. If you're not sure about the new school, log in, go to My Details and click on the list of schools, scrolling to find your new school.

If your new school is NOT on the list, you will need to close your account. Send an email to hello@mykindo.co.nz requesting to close your account. This request will need to:

  1. Be emailed from your my kindo account email address
  2. State the current balance on the account
  3. Provide the bank account number for refunding the balance (or ask for it to be forwarded to the school)

Refunds and account closures will be actioned during January/February.

Can you please notify the School Office in writing or by email to kimr@rps.school.nz if your child is not returning to RPS in 2020 so that the paperwork around the leaving process can be completed.

If you have a child turning 5 in 2020 and have not already done so, can you please stop by the office and pick up an enrolment pack, or if you have already picked up a pack please return to the office asap. This applies not only to new families but to existing families who may have a younger child yet to join the RPS family. Confirmed enrolments are used to establish the number of teachers required at each year level and the number of students in each class.  Whilst we realise there will always be unexpected enrolments from families moving into our zone, having confirmation from all in-zone enrolments helps us enormously in our planning.

Class Liaisons 2020

Volunteer to be a class liaison!

It doesn't matter if you have been one before or if you are brand new and want to give it a go, we are on the lookout for volunteers for class liaisons for 2020, so we can hit the ground running in Term 1.

What's involved?

The Class Liaison is the link between the PTA organising committee and our school community. You will support the PTA by passing on important information to the classroom parents and caregivers via email.

Optional extras: If you want to, you can also organise class events for parents to get to know each other, or team up with other class liaisons in your year to do the same. This is a great way to welcome new families to the school and build the school community.

Interested? Email rps_pta@outlook.co.nz for more information.

Volunteers Needed Please – Year 6 Breakfast

Our Year 6 students deserve a great send-off!

If you can spare a few hours on the evening of Thursday 12th December and/or the morning of Friday 13th December please let us know. We need help setting up on the Thursday and then preparing and cooking food, serving tea and coffee and cleaning up afterwards on the Friday.

Please email rps_pta@outlook.co.nz if you can help.

Volunteers Needed Please – Stationery 2020

We need a team of volunteers to help label and deliver stationery boxes in the first week of term.

If you are available 9am-11am on the first day of school (Monday 3rd February) or for an hour on Tuesday 4th or Wednesday 5th please email rps_pta@outlook.co.nz

If anyone has a trolley that can be used to assist with delivery of the boxes to classrooms please also let us know.

Sensitive Santa

Children's Autism Foundation is proud to support Sensitive Santa at Westfield Malls across Auckland this Christmas season.

Westfield are offering a Sensitive Santa experience so that families can visit their Christmas wonderland and have their photo taken in a relaxed environment.  Westfield's Sensitive Santa sessions are specially tailored to children with autism and anyone with sensory challenges who might find a conventional Santa a little overwhelming.
These calm and comfortable photography sessions are run before stores open, when the centre is quieter, to create a relaxed and sensory-friendly Santa experience.

With a booked time slot and no need to wait in a queue, families can take their time to enjoy their moment with Santa.  You can book your visit here (spaces are limited so be quick!)

Westfield Albany
Westfield St Lukes
Westfield Manukau
Westfield Newmarket

During your session, please let the Westfield team know if there's anything they can do to help make your experience easier and they will accommodate any special requests as best they can.

To get a feel for the experience, we hope you enjoy the short film below that tells the story of one family's experience with Sensitive Santa.    Click here to view the video

Westfield and our own Family Consultant Arletta van den Bosch has also developed a social story to help children with autism understand what they might expect from a Sensitive Santa visit.   Click here to receive a social story to prepare your child for their Santa visit.

You are welcome to phone or email us if you have any questions or require any more information about sensory issues in children with ASD.

May your "silly season" be filled with much fun and aroha!
