5th December Newsletter 2019

Farewell to Departing Staff

As the year draws to a close, I would like to recognise those members of the teaching staff that will not be returning in 2020. As a school we have been blessed with an awesome staff who - collectively, contribute richly to the learning experiences of every child at RPS.

Teaching today - as you know, requires staff to invest enormously.  As well as planning incredible lessons for our students, they also give so freely of their time outside of the classroom.  Be it coaching a team, leading a music group or providing support to those students who require an extra boost.

Remuera Primary School has been fortunate in recent years to have maintained a relatively low staff turnover, but this year we bid farewell to eight teachers. More formal farewells will be provided to these staff at a later date, but I wanted to acknoweldge these teachers for their incredible commitment and drive to support our students.

Please join me in acknowledging and farewelling the following teachers;

  • Katrina Barber - Year 1
  • Sarah Bush - Year 1
  • Katharine Grigor - Year 1
  • Jasmine Ko - Year 1
  • Michelle Sutton - Year 1
  • Olivia Wallace - Year 2
  • Karolina Kirchmann - Year 6
  • Amanda Taylor - Deputy Principal

To each of our departing teachers, I thank you for your amazing work with our children. You have each left your mark on Remuera Primary School and we are indeed richer for the talent, enthusiasm and professionalism each of you has brought to our school.

I would also like to announce that Nicole Dunne has been appointed as the Deputy Principal with responsibility for the Junior School from January 2020.  Please join with me in congratulating her.

As this is the last newsletter for 2019 I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Important Information Regarding the 2019 Year 6 Graduation and Prize-giving Ceremony

Important Information Regarding the 2019 Year 6 Graduation and Prize-giving Ceremony

We are very much looking forward to this special evening on the Year 6 calendar.

King's School has kindly allowed us to use their venue for the ceremony this year - it will take place in their War Memorial Hall off Remuera Road (close to Portland Road) on Tuesday 10 December. Students must meet their teachers outside our designated entrance to the side of the main doors at 6.15pm, just before parents take their seats in the hall. The ceremony proper will start at 6.30pm and run for approximately 75 minutes.

As we have 5 x Year Six classes this year, seating will be limited. Please take this into account when you decide when to arrive and who to bring - siblings or grandparents would mean standing room only for fellow parents. The front row will be reserved for our guest speaker, Principal and members of the Board of Trustees. Doors to the theatre will open at 6.10pm.

The ceremony is a formal occasion so students need to be well groomed and in exact school uniform - including black shoes. Hair ties/ribbons must be in school colours.

See you on the night!

PTA 2020 – So much to look forward to!

PTA 2020 - So much to look forward to!

As we all say farewell to 2019, the PTA is already putting plans together for 2020. Our favourite events are back for another year plus we have a couple of new exciting ideas taking shape.

Get involved…

Hot Cross Bun fundraiser, Matariki celebration, Milo Fridays! We have the ideas, but to bring them to life we need more people to help organise them. You don't have to attend PTA meetings and you don't have to do it alone! Grab your friends and send us an email letting us know what you would like to be involved with on rps_pta@outlook.co.nz

Fundraising in 2020…

In 2020 we will continue to fundraise towards improvements to the school's outdoor environment. There have been some exciting changes to the outdoor play areas this year and the school has more projects in the pipeline that the PTA would love to help fund. These projects directly benefit our kids so please continue to support our fundraisers and events so we can hit those targets as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your support in 2019 and see you all in 2020!

Your RPS PTA team

Class Liaisons 2020 – More volunteers please

Class Liaisons 2020 - More volunteers please

We still need a few more class liaisons for 2020.

It doesn't matter if you have been one before or if you are brand new and want to give it a go, we are on the lookout for volunteers for class liaisons for 2020, so we can hit the ground running in Term 1.

What's involved?

The Class Liaison is the link between the PTA organising committee and our school community. You will support the PTA by passing on important information to the classroom parents and caregivers via email.

Optional extras: If you want to you can also organise class events for parents to get to know each other, or team up with other class liaisons in your year to do the same. This is a great way to welcome new families to the school and build the school community.

Interested? Email rps_pta@outlook.co.nz for more information.

Reminder – Support the Giving Tree for KiwiHarvest

The RPS Giving Tree is in place in the school foyer and ready to receive your generous donations of dry or canned food items. Please place them under the tree by Friday 13th December.

Donations will go to support Kiwiharvest. KiwiHarvest reduces the negative impacts of food waste on our environment by redistributing excess food; helping to create lasting positive social change by nourishing those in need. They collect good food before it goes to waste and get it to those in need.

Thank you for your support.

sKids Before and After School Care and School Holiday Programme at RPS

BEFORE SCHOOL CARE

The right start to a child's day is essential for great learning. sKids are able to care for children at school before school begins for the day. We're open from 7.30am. Join us on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for a hot breakfast and a take-away Café-style coffee for all parents!

AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Whether children need care until 4pm, 5pm or 6pm, for a full week or just one or more days, sKids can help with all permanent or adhoc casual care.

Kids have so much fun at sKids they often don't want to leave. We'll provide a nutritious afternoon tea (please visit us to see our new-improved Food Menu), supervise their homework, let them play, then run a fun activity so parents can rest assured that they are safe, secure and having a great time.
