7th November Newsletter 2019

Congratulations Amanda Taylor

Last weekend our Deputy Principal, Amanda Taylor was the successful applicant and has been appointed as the first Principal of Pukekohe West School, starting in January 2020. Being appointed as the foundation Principal of a brand new school, is indeed a wonderful honour.

Amanda was favoured by the appointments committee over two experienced Principals, a credit to her and a measure of the incredible talent she possesses.  Amanda will be the most amazing Principal, and has certainly left a lasting legacy at RPS.

While there will be time in the coming weeks to formally acknowledge the phenomenal contribution Amanda has made to RPS, please join with me now in congratulating her.

Special Thanks To Our PTA

As you have seen, our wonderful new Tigerturf facility was opened on Tuesday.  The turf has completely transformed this area, and the children are absolutely loving the new space.

This project and school enhancement would not have been possible without the incredible support of our PTA, who funded this project entirely.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our PTA Chair - Mrs. Nicola Davies, and her dedicated team of helpers who tirelessly fundraise for our school.  It is wonderful to see the fruit of their hard work.

Please join me in thanking them, and of course my thanks to you, the parents, for supporting each and every one of our PTA ventures.

Volunteers Needed Please – Year 6 Breakfast

Our Year 6 students deserve a great send-off!

If you can spare a few hours on the evening of Thursday 12th December and/or the morning of Friday 13th December please let us know. We need help setting up on the Thursday and then preparing and cooking food, serving tea and coffee and cleaning up afterwards on the Friday.

Please email rps_pta@outlook.co.nz if you can help.

PTA Gardening Bee

It was a beautiful day on Sunday for our PTA Spring Gardening Bee. We achieved a lot and there was a great community spirit in the air.

We managed to get the Year 5 (2018) Totem Art Poles into the ground near the Steam Room. Huge credit to the Dads that did this as the ground was as hard as concrete. It was not an easy task but our Dads did not give up and the Totem Poles look fab! Make sure you check them out as you enter the school from the Dromorne Road gate.

Whilst the garden near Room 15 is still a work in progress a huge amount was achieved here as well. The plant that had taken over the garden is rather stubborn, with a large and very sturdy root system. A lot of this was removed and the ground has been turned over and is almost ready for our RPS Kids Gardening Club to get planting.

All in all it was a great day. The PTA would like to extend a huge thank you to all the RPS families that were available to come and take part. It was great to see the kids getting involved as well and we really appreciate your time, energy and hard work!!

Thank you

Class Liaisons 2020

Volunteer to be a class liaison!

It doesn't matter if you have been one before or if you are brand new and want to give it a go, we are on the lookout for volunteers for class liaisons for 2020, so we can hit the ground running in Term 1.

What's involved?

The Class Liaison is the link between the PTA organising committee and our school community. You will support the PTA by passing on important information to the classroom parents and caregivers via email.

Optional extras: If you want to you can also organise class events for parents to get to know each other, or team up with other class liaisons in your year to do the same. This is a great way to welcome new families to the school and build the school community.

Interested? Email rps_pta@outlook.co.nz for more information.

Reminder - $2 Ice Blocks on Fridays

The PTA are selling ice blocks at Break 2 every Friday this term (weather permitting). Ice blocks are $2 each. Students can bring their money to school and look out for the wheelbarrows on the courts at Break 2.

Money from ice block sales goes towards sunscreen bottles in the classrooms and other PTA funded projects.
