Reading Support

For several years at RPS parents volunteered to help support some of our students in Years 3 to 6 who needed a little extra help with their reading. This programme faltered last year due to a lack of volunteers. In Term 2 we are hoping to reintroduce this Reading Support programme to RPS. If you or any family members are interested and would like to support students with their reading 2 to 3 times a week for an hour then RSVP to Amanda Taylor at amandat@rps.school.nz. At the beginning of Term 2 on Thursday 4th May at 2:30 pm we will meet to discuss the reading support programme and answer any questions.  It is a great opportunity to help in a positive way within school.

  • 8:00am-8.30am every Friday, starting in Week 1
  • Rain-Hail-Shine
  • Meet Mr Hassall outside the Senior School Block changed & ready to run
  • Parents welcome!

Dear Parents,

Year 5 & 6 students are welcome to join this weekly training squad as we build up towards the Remuera Primary School Cross Country Championship on Tuesday 13 June. Runs will take place in the school grounds and I will be coaching and running with the group. These runs will complement the training runs scheduled by teachers during the normal school day.

Zone Cross Country Training Squad

Following the RPS Cross Country Championship, the training squad will reduce in size - as it will be made up of those children who gained the top five places in their races. This smaller group will build up towards the Zone Cross Country Championship, which is scheduled for Tuesday 19 September. The Friday morning training runs will be longer, more intense and outside the school grounds. There may be a second run added. We require parents to come along in order to make these runs safe.

If you have any queries about the training squads, please drop me a line.

Warm regards,

Mark Hassall (markh@rps.school.nz)
