Message from the Board Chair

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Confirmation of Full Day Teachers' Strike on Wednesday 15 August 2018

The NZEI has advised the Remuera Primary School Board of Trustees that the Principal and teachers at our school will be taking strike action around workload issues, extra learning support and ways to stem the growing crisis in recruiting and retaining teachers, for a full day on Wednesday 15 August 2018.

The Board has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can't provide the normal teaching services during the strike. It's important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike as the school will be closed for tuition.

I know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern. Thank you for your understanding.  Please also note that SKIDs - the before and after school care company, will be operating throughout the day on the Strike Day. If you are interested in utilizing this service, please contact the centre Manager, remuera@skids.co.nz

Please contact the school office if you have any queries relating to this decision.

Regards,

Jo Christie

Chairperson Board of Trustees

The Ned Show

The NED Show® produced by All for KIDZ®, Inc., is an innovative, character education assembly. Using humour, storytelling, audience participation and amazing object lessons including yo-yo and magic tricks students learn through the adventures of NED, a character kids (and adults) can relate to. His name is an acronym for:

Never Give Up, Encourage Others, Do Your Best®

The NED Program uses a multi-sensory learning model to motivate, encourage and inspire students to become Champions at school and in life.

We are delighted to share this programme with all our students and have been fortunate that it is coming to RPS through their the Pay it Forward programme. We are the lucky recepients of another school selling the Ned Yoyos and now we would like to do the same.

Pay it Forward

We Pay it Forward by selling the NED Show Yoyos.

Next week, before school each day, we will be selling The NED Show Yoyos, in the Office Foyer. Children need to bring the order form, along with the exact amount of money or a cheque made payable to RPS. There will not be an eftpos machine option sorry. If you do not have a printer you can pick up a form at the RPS Office before popping over to place your child's order. The Yoyo's will be for sale from 8.20am - 8.50am each morning.

There are three AMAZING NED Yoyos to choose from, the Glow in the Dark one costs only $8. The show has been gifted to RPS as we agreed to host this 'Pay-It-Forward' sale. It usually is an enormous cost and we are extremely grateful for this opportunity. Please do support The NED Show and make a purchase if you can, as we can then gift the show to another school and make a donation to Starship Hospital.

To order your NED Yo-Yo, click this link for the order form.  Yo-Yo Order Form

RPS KNOWLEDGE-A-THON 2018

Knowledgeathon 2018

RPS KNOWLEDGE-A-THON

This week your child will have brought home their questions for the 2018 RPS Knowledge-a-thon. For families that are new to the school, the Knowledge-a-thon is one of the major fundraisers run by the PTA each year. It is held in conjunction with the RPS teachers with the aim of increasing the children's learning and at the same time, raising funds for the school.

As you will see in the notice, the children are being asked to research the answers to their questions over the next two weeks and their teacher will check all answers with them on Friday 10th August. Knowledge-a-thon testing will take place in class on Thursday 16th August. New Entrant, Year 1 and Year 2 classes will have their tests orally and Years 3-6 will complete their test in written form.

The children are also being asked to find sponsors to support them. We encourage the children to acquire as many sponsors as possible. As an extra incentive for the children to take part, we have some FANTASTIC prizes from our generous sponsors! For more details, see the notice.

We are hugely grateful to our sponsors Micro®scooters, Hell Pizza Remuera and Scholastic.

If you have any queries please contact Julia Stafford Julia.stafford@xtra.co.nz or Rachel Bowkett rachelb@ihug.co.nz

Cultural Concert 2018

The Cultural Concert will be performed in Week Ten of Term Three. The dress rehearsal will be on Tuesday September 25th and the final performance will be on Friday September 28th

Many children have signed up this week for this year's 'Cultural Concert' with Mrs Grant. Some of these children are already a part of a dance group outside school while others wish to teach something from their country of origin to another student or group of students.

Many children who have signed up only have a group or an idea organised, but that's fine. Remember you don't have to be from that country to learn that act. You can learn from another student.

Performances run from 2-3 minutes in length.

What you can get out of being involved in the Remuera Primary School,  Cultural Concert:

  • you find out about another culture
  • learn parts of a new language
  • represent your country
  • perform in front of an audience
  • have awesome fun!

If you have missed this week's sign ups please don't worry you can still contact Mrs Grant or come and see her before or after school. Her email is: nikkig@rps.school.nz

We are looking forward to the new dance, martial arts and singing acts for 2018's 'Remuera Primary School Cultural Concert!'

See what one of our RPS Parents had to say about our Before School Care:
"Hi Faieka. My daughter Bailey has been going to before school care for about 5 weeks now, to the Remuera Centre and this is a quick note to let you know we are highly impressed with the service! Sam and the ladies are absolutely outstanding and Bailey gets excited to go there every day, which for a parent, is such a relief.
Please pass on my thanks to the team! They are truly an asset to your team."
