School Phones

We are currently experiencing issues with our phone system as one of the lines coming into our PABX has broken.  This has reduced the number of available lines coming into our school and parents are experiencing an engaged signal when trying to contact us.  Should you experience this and you need to get in touch with us urgently can you please email the office to office@rps.school.nz or kimr@rps.school.nz

SAUSAGE SIZZLE & MUFTI DAY 23 MARCH

SAUSAGE SIZZLE & MUFTI DAY 23 MARCH

School Online Shop is open for Sausage Sizzle and Mufti donation payments.

You can order sausages and mufti from today until 8:45am Friday 23rd March via the RPS website.

We are aware there have been intermittent issues with account2account payments, this has mainly affected ASB customers or customers using Chrome. Kindo's payment provider is investigating this. Kindo have launched payment through POLi which will hopefully be a more stable option and is also instant and without charge.

You can also add funds to your myKindo account using debit/credit card (AMEX now accepted) or directly through internet banking - all payment details are on the "top up account" page in myKindo.co.nz.

If you require any help with setup or payment options please contact the Kindo team at The Growth Collective via email helpdesk@thegrowthcollective.co.nz or phone 09 475 5287 (Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm).

Please contact the sausage sizzle team at RPSsizzlesisters@gmail.com if you can assist in any way or have any queries regarding the sausage sizzle days.

Year 4 Seminar Day – Yeast & the Science of Bread-making

On Wednesday 21st February a small group of our Year 4 students took part in a GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Seminar Day which involved learning about yeast and bread-making. The students were interested to learn that yeast is a member of the fungus family  - just like the mushrooms they eat for dinner. There was a hands-on science experiment in pairs to see who could activate their yeast successfully. Different quantities of warm water, sugar and yeast were placed in a flask and a balloon was put over the top. The students loved seeing their balloons expand as yeast cells multiplied and carbon dioxide was released. They also looked at a clip of yeast cells budding under a powerful microscope. In the second half of the day the children got to work making & kneading dough, then baking bread. A definite highlight was tearing off and eating a chunk of their bread with a little butter at the end of the day.  Well done to the involved students for their teamwork and enthusiasm for Science learning.

Chaos at the School Gate

PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF STUDENTS/PARKING IN SURROUNDING STREETS

We have once again received a number of complaints from concerned parents and neighbours regarding the actions of some parents when picking up and dropping off students from Dromorne Road, Armadale Road, and Platina Street.  We would like to remind parents that standard road rules apply and you should not be parking or stopping on yellow lines, over driveways, in the bus stop, double parking and coming up onto the footpaths.  Be aware that there is heavy foot traffic of small children crossing and walking in these areas during these times.

In particular in recent times we have had parents park across driveways restricting the homeowners from legally entering or exiting their own properties.  The Road Code defines Driveway parking as follows:  Drivers must not stop, stand or park their vehicles so that they obstruct driveways. Obstruction is defined as a vehicle being parked within 1m of the side of the driveway (Road User Rule, clause 6.9).

As a school we value the relationship we have with our neighbours and rely on them to keep an eye on our school during evenings, weekends and school holidays. Please help us show our appreciation by parking legally and respecting the spaces around their driveways.

Remuera Primary School is part of Auckland Transport's 'Chaos at the School Gate' and, as part of this programme, Parking Wardens will from time to time patrol the surrounding streets to observe non-compliant behaviours and issue tickets to those that are illegally parked. We receive no notification of when the wardens will be patrolling outside of our school as they are randomly assigned to all schools who are part of the programme. If you park illegally then you can expected to receive a ticket.

In the last 3 weeks our Office Staff have fielded complaints from parents who superivse our Road Patrol Crossings of illegal parking, restricting the visibility of our Road Patrollers which makes it dangerous for all concerned.  They have also received complaints from neighbours on Dromorne Road whose driveways were blocked by parents parking across them. We have a duty of care as a community to model safe and legal behaviour for our students and we ask that you all help us do this by observing the road rules around our school.

Remuera Chinese Lantern Festival Friday February 23rd

Remuera Chinese Lantern Festival Friday February 23rd

Flower dance

Congratulations to Mischa Tan and Amy Guo from Year 6 who performed the dance of the Jasmine Flowers in front of a large crowd at the Remuera Chinese Lantern Festival. Their dance was graceful and their arm movements delicate like the flowers themselves.

Fan dance (2)

Prachi Chandra, Zoya Beig and Abella Gilchrist, from Room 27 wowed the crowds of onlookers with their beautiful fan dance. Their fans were light and fluttered like the wings of a bird.

We were IMMENSLEY proud of them as we were of Galathee Gaillard, Alessia and Valentina Lewis who dressed in traditional Chinese costume to support them! Merci les filles!

AMAZING!!! Jingren! Incroyable!
