Message From The Principal

The School Disco - scheduled for June 6, is fast approaching.  In collaboration with the PTA, we have developed the following guidelines for the Disco, to ensure the highest levels of safety for your children. Please take a moment to read these.

School Disco FAQs The RPS PTA organize Discos each year for the students. Our school discos are wonderful community events and are a highlight in the school social calendar that all the kids really look forward to.

We have developed the following Guidelines and FAQs to assist families in understanding our expectations.  We hope you find them useful.

How can you help? We encourage parents to stay at the disco, supervise and have fun with their child where possible.  We are ALWAYS looking for people to help with setting up, monitoring entry, food, refreshments and fun stalls, patrolling the doors and school, tidying up at the end.

We cannot run these events without your help so please, to ensure these events continue to go ahead, let us know if you can help by emailing our Disco Team Leader Sally Woodfield at:  woodfield.nz@gmail.com

When are discos held? Check out the school website calendar for the latest dates.

What time are they held?

This year, for the first time, we will be holding three separate discos on each date.

  • Junior School (Year 0, 1 & 2), from 3:30pm to 4:15pm

  • Middle School (Years 3 & 4), from 4:45 to 5:30pm

  • Senior School (Year 5 & 6), from 6:00 to 7:00pm

Where are they held? In the school hall, refreshments and food will be available in the foyer. There will be a Fresh Air Zone also made available to the children.

Children will not be permitted to leave the disco area without being collected in person by a parent.

Who can attend our school disco?

All children who currently attend Remuera Primary.

Senior school children are not permitted to attend the Junior School and Middle School discos and vice versa.

Younger siblings(under age 5) can attend the Junior School disco as long as they are accompanied by their parent/guardian whilst they are at the disco.

Children may not bring friends from other schools. This is an RPS Disco only.

Entering the disco: Parents and carers will be asked to deliver their child to their teacher. The location for this meeting will be posted on the entry to the hall.

Leaving the disco: At the conclusion of the disco, children will assemble with their teacher at the front of the Hall.  Parents will need to enter the Hall, and collect their child from their class teacher. NO CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED WITHOUT AN ADULT.

This is so our teachers and PTA volunteers can ensure that all children are accompanied home by an adult.

Supervision at discos: We encourage parents and carers to stay, supervise and have fun with their children at our school discos.

Senior school children are not permitted to attend the Junior or Middle School discos to supervise their siblings.

How much is entry? Tickets are $10.

Should children bring cash to the disco? Glow bands, lucky dips, photo booth and additional food and drink may be purchased on the night. These will all be priced at $1 and $2. We suggest you give your child between $5 and $10 in coins which should be enough for them to purchase some additional fun items or food.

Please do not send your child to the disco with large sums of money - such as $50 notes. It can be very upsetting for children to lose their money in the darkened hall.

How do I pay? Disco entry will be sold in advance of the disco via Kindo through the school website.

By using Kindo we have a record of who is attending the disco for safety reasons.  Late payment will be accepted on the door. However, this is not the preferred option.

Disco Tips.

Dress your child in something with pockets or give them a handbag or wallet to keep their cash safe. Children must wear shoes at the disco.Students are NOT permitted to bring Mobile phones to the school disco.

Behaviour: Whilst this is a fun night, a high standard of behaviour is expected from our students and families. Please respect each other and our school property.

This is a children's event. No alcohol is to be consumed at this event and smoking is not permitted on the school grounds.

Breaches of these guidelines may lead to a student being sent home early.

Important: By purchasing a ticket to our School Disco you are agreeing to our guidelines.

Please read the guidelines carefully so that our expectation of behaviour and attendance is fully understood.

NZEI Teachers Strike - May 29

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Confirmation of Full Day Teachers' Strike on Wednesday 29 May 2019

The NZEI has advised the Remuera Primary School Board of Trustees that the Principal and teachers at our school will be taking strike action around workload issues, extra learning support and ways to stem the growing crisis in recruiting and retaining teachers, for a full day on Wednesday 29 May 2019.

The Board has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can't provide the normal teaching services during the strike. It's important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike as the school will be closed for tuition.

I know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern. Thank you for your understanding.  Please also note that SKIDs - the before and after school care company, will be operating throughout the day on the Strike Day. If you are interested in utilizing this service, please contact the centre Manager, remuera@skids.co.nz

Please contact the school office if you have any queries relating to this decision.

Dropping off and picking up your child to and from school

Before and After School: Can we please remind you that children should not be dropped at school before 8.30am unless they have an organised sports practice or meeting.  We have seen an increasing number of students dropped to school very early in the morning as well as being picked up very late at the end of the school day.  Our classrooms open at 8.30am and close at 3.00pm. Parents are responsible for their children outside of those hours, even if they are still on the school grounds.  If you need to drop your child off early and need to pick them up after 3pm Skids provide a Before and After School care in our School Hall.

Whilst the Office opens at 8.00am it is not fully staffed until 8.30am and frequently there is only 1 staff member on duty.  This makes it very difficult if a child has an accident in the Playground while they are unsupervised. The office is a very busy place at that time and it is not workable if the office staff are unable to perform their core duties if they have to monitor a child in Sickbay.

Enrolment at RPS

NEW ENROLMENTS: If you have a child turning 5 in 2019 OR 2020 and you have not already done so, can you please stop by the office and pick up an enrolment pack.  If you have a completed enrolment form which you have not brought back to the office can you please do so as soon as possible, this helps with our planning for 2020.

Kids Can Fun Run

KidsCan Fun Run a message from our Student Council

This year our Cross Country race, will also double as a fun run to fundraise for KidsCan. KidsCan raises money for children that don't have jackets, food, water, health supplies and shoes. 1 in 5 kids live in homes that don't have enough food and 290,000 kiwi kids live in poverty.

The students at RPS will be raising money for Kids Can by collecting sponsorship for the fun run. The amount we raise will be donated directly to KidsCan. This means while you are running the cross country, you are raising money to help other kids!

The Cross Country/Fun Run will happen on the 19th of June.

The children will thank you for all the support.

Jenesis Au Yeung & Alice Bright

Here is more information on this Fun Run

This is an online fundraiser. All relevant information will be sent home with the students next week so please keep an eye out for your child's sponsorship forms and a parent letter.

We are excited to be participating in the first ever KidsCan School Fun Run this year. Since its foundation, KidsCan has committed its efforts to helping provide disadvantaged kiwi kids with food, clothing, and basic healthcare needs, as well as creating educational opportunities. By participating in the KidsCan School Fun Run we hope to raise community awareness so that KidsCan can continue its outstanding work.

The KidsCan Fun Run events will take place as part of our Cross Country on Tuesday June 18th (Rain date: Tuesday June 25th)

- In the morning Years 3-6 Cross country at Thomas Bloodworth Park, Shore Rd, Remuera.

- In the afternoon Years 0-2 Fun Run in the school grounds
