Lions Citizenship Awards

Lions Citizenship Awards

Congratulations Hannah Gray and George Butler

Congratulations to our Year 6 students Hannah Gray and George Butler who were presented with Lions Citizenship Awards at a special ceremony at St Kentigerns School last night. Hannah and George were nominated by their Year 6 peers as students who best exemplify the qualities on the Lions Junior Citizenship Code - they are respectful, generous with their time, loyal and helpful, to name a few. Well done - we are very proud of you both.

Police Vet Checks

In response to the enactment of The Vulnerable Children's Act 2014 our Board of Trustees made the decision that any parent intending to stay overnight on a school excursion, will need to have a current Police Vet Check.  Our Board believes strongly that we need to be doing everything within our power to ensure the safety of our students, and it is for this reason all parents attending school camps or overnight stays (for example the overnight stay at Kelly Tarlton's) will need to have a current Police Vet Check in order to be considered for parent help.

Whilst we will not be selecting parent volunteers for camps until early next year, we encourage any parent who is considering putting their name forward, to begin the process of getting a Police Vet Check soon. It would be ideal to do this in the next 2 weeks as this will ensure that all results will be received before the beginning of the 2018 school year. If you do not have a valid Police Check we will not be able to consider you as a Parent Helper for overnight camps. If you have applied for a vet check in the last 2 years this check is valid for 3 years and there will be no need to do another one.

Cost: Once the Act came into force all schools and Early Childhood Centres began to vet all parent volunteers for their overnight camps. Until July this year there was no charge for these checks, however, due to the sheer volume of checks now being processed the NZ Police have introduced a charge of $8.50.  I am sure you will appreciate that we are unable to absorb the charges for sometimes over 150 checks and moving forward parents will be required to pay for their check.

If you would like to be considered for camp then to obtain a Vet Check you can either email Mary maryf@rps.school.nz requesting a form for completion or, you can stop by the office and complete the form. Completion takes no more than 5 minutes.

You need to provide 2 forms of ID one of which must be photographic, here is the list of acceptable forms of ID:
18+ Card

Birth Certificate

Citizenship Certificate

Civil Union Certificate

Community Services Card

Drivers Licence

Electoral Roll Record

Firearms Licence

Inland Revenue Number

International Driving Permit

Licenced Building Practitioner ID Card

Marriage Certificate

If you have any questions around these checks please see Mary in the Office or you can email her at the address above.

Class Directory 2018

Each year our PTA publishes a Class Directory that has proven to be a valuable resource for the school and for our school families who all receive a complimentary copy.

We have now begun working on the 2018 directory and we would like to invite school families and local businesses to help support us with advertising.  There are 3 options available for advert size and the cost varies according to the size chosen.  Advertisers are not invoiced until after the Directory has been printed and distributed.  If you have a business or know someone who has, that may be interested in being a part of next year's directory please email Claire Littlewood: cjlittlewood@hotmail.com before the end of the term to confirm your space.
