Message from the Principal

Cultural Concert 2018

This week we will once again be treated to the most amazing Cultural Performance - by more than 80 of our students, in the annual RPS Cultural Concert.  Nikki Grant - our ESOL Coordinator, is the brains behind this annual event and is to be congratulated for the work she and her team have done in bringing this performance from "idea" to "reality".

The performances this year will be a sensational showcase of the multitude of cultures that so richly form the fabirc of our school.  As you are all aware, our school's diversity is changing rapidly.  Something we are indeed very proud of, and celebrate.  There is much to learn and acknowledge as we globalise our school.

Research suggests diversity among students in education directly impacts their performance. Studies show that students work better in a diverse environment, enabling them to concentrate and push themselves further when there are people of other backgrounds working alongside them. This promotes creativity, as well as better education, as those with differing viewpoints are able to collaborate to create new solutions.

It is for these reasons that we commit resourcing and prioritse our annual Cultural Concert. Please join us on Friday in the Hall at 9:15am for the first performance or at 11:40, for the second performance. You will be amazed at the talent on show.  Our students truly are incredible.

Finally, I want to acknoweldge Nikki, Natalie and Julie - our amazing ESOL teachers, and also a massive thanks to the many parents who supported this event and assisted with costumes and rehearsals.

Marvellous Market Day

Marvellous Market Day was a huge success with $853 raised to donate to "Go Baby Go".

Congratulations goes to the Market Day Elective children who came up with exciting ideas for the day and then created, advertised, sold and even cleaned up after the event.

Thanks to the families that donated goods and a HUGE thank you to the parents that helped the students with the making of goods and selling on the day.

Knowledge-a-thon

Once again the Knowledgeathon has been a huge success.  The Knowledgeathon has been an annual fundraiser for the PTA for many years, and money raised in the past has been used to fund things that all children can enjoy, and benefit from, such as the three playgrounds and library shelving.  This year the money raised will be used towards the exciting new seating and table tennis area which will be built next to the Year One playground.

Thank you to all the children for working so hard - you really are amazing.

Update from the PTA

It's been another busy term for the PTA.  We would like to thank all our volunteers, and committee members, for being involved in the success of the following events this past term. Without you these events just couldn't happen.

  • Quiz Night
  • Knowledgeathon
  • School Disco
  • Sausage sizzles
  • Jesters Pies
  • Teachers Thank You(Morning Tea)

Iceblock Fridays are back for Term 4.

$2 per Iceblock and sold at second break every sunny Friday(except Sausage Sizzle Days) out in the playground. Kids you know where to find our green wheelbarrows!

Sponsor a BBQ

Sadly one of our BBQs has fallen apart, after 10 years of outstanding sausage sizzling service, and the other one is not far off. Would anyone in our school community be able to sponsor a new one(or two)for our school PTA. If you are able to help please let us know at PTAChair@rps.school.nz

Wishing all our school community safe and happy holidays!!

Second hand Uniform Sale

We will be holding a second hand uniform sale on Friday 26th October at 2.30pm in the Office Foyer.

Donations of second hand uniform that your children have grown out of are greatly appreciated by the PTA.  These can be dropped to the school office and we can include them in future sales.

Please also ensure you label ALL your children's uniform items - this makes it easy to return it to your child should it get sent to lost property.
